Oda Nobunaga (織田 信長, Oda Nobunaga; c. 1534 – June 21, 1582) was a powerful daimyō (feudal lord) of the late 16th century who played a major role in the unification of Japan. Often referred to as the "Demon King" (大悪党, Dai Akutō) or the "Thunder King" (雷神, Raidenshin), Nobunaga was the first of the three prominent figures—alongside Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu—to conquer much of Japan, initiating the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1568–1600). His campaigns began the process that resulted in the unification of Japan under the Tokugawa shogunate, which ruled from the early 17th century until the mid-19th century. Nobunaga is regarded as one of the most influential figures in Japanese history. In Hebrew, his name can be transliterated as אודה נובונאגה (Oda Nobunaga). In Chinese, he is known as 织田信长 (Zhīdiǎn Xìncháng), and in Korean, his name is written as 오다 노부나가 (Oda Nobunaga).
