Lakshmi

Lakshmi (Sanskrit: लक्ष्मी, IAST: Lakṣmī) is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, courage, and the embodiment of beauty. The word Lakshmi is derived from the Sanskrit word lakṣ, meaning "goal," and is often translated as "goddess of prosperity." In Hebrew, she is known as לקסמי (Lakshmi). In Tamil, she is called வெண்மொழி (Vennmozhi), and in Telugu, she is referred to as లక్ష్మి (Lakṣmi). Lakshmi is the consort of the god Vishnu and is often depicted as a beautiful woman with gold-colored skin, dressed in fine red garments, and adorned with gold ornaments. She is typically shown seated or standing on a lotus flower, symbolizing purity and beauty. Lakshmi is also associated with the chakra (wheel) of wealth and prosperity, and her blessings are believed to bring good fortune and success. In Hindu iconography, she is often depicted with four hands, each holding symbols of wealth and prosperity, such as gold coins, a lotus flower, and a conch shell. Lakshmi is worshipped during the festival of Diwali, which celebrates the victory of light over darkness and the goddess's role in bringing prosperity and happiness.
