Kubera (Sanskrit: कुबेर, romanized: Kubera) is the god of wealth, prosperity, and the treasurer of the gods in Hinduism. He is often depicted with a mace, a pot of treasure, and a buffalo, and is associated with the Yakshas, a class of nature spirits. Kubera is also known as the ruler of the northern direction and is sometimes referred to as the "Lord of the North." In Buddhist and Jain traditions, Kubera is similarly revered as a deity of wealth and prosperity. The term "Kubera" can be translated to Hebrew as קוברה (pronounced Kubera). In other languages, Kubera is known as Kubera in Tamil, Kubera in Telugu, and Kubera in Kannada. Key contextual information includes his association with the mythical city of Alaka, his role in various Hindu epics such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and his depiction in ancient temple art and iconography.
