Izanagi (イザナギ, 伊邪那岐) is a deity in Shinto and Japanese mythology, responsible for the creation of Japan and many of its deities. His name translates to "he who invites" or "the male who invites" in Japanese. In Hebrew, this could be translated as איזנאגי (pronounced: Ee-za-na-gee). Izanagi is one of the primary deities in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, the oldest known records of Japanese history and mythology. He is often paired with his sister and consort, Izanami. Together, they are known as the seven generations of the age of the gods (神世七代, Kamiyo Nanayo). Izanagi is also notable for his role in the myth of the creation of Japan and his descent into the underworld, Yomi, to retrieve Izanami after her death. His actions and adventures have significantly influenced Japanese religious practices and cultural narratives.
