Ixion

Ixion (Greek: Ἰξίων) is a figure from Greek mythology, often described as the son of Phlegyas, king of the Lapiths, and a descendant of the god Ares. He is primarily known for his role in the myth of the centaurs and for his punishment in the Underworld. Ixion's most infamous act was murdering his father-in-law, King Deioneus, to avoid paying a bride price, a crime for which he was exiled and later pardoned by Zeus. However, his ingratitude led him to attempt to seduce Hera, Zeus's wife, which resulted in his eternal punishment: he was bound to a burning wheel (the Ixion Wheel) that spun ceaselessly in Tartarus. In Hebrew, Ixion is transliterated as איקסיון. The name is also found in other languages, such as French (Ixion), Spanish (Ixión), and Italian (Issione). The myth of Ixion is significant in Greek mythology as it illustrates the consequences of hubris and ingratitude, and it also explains the origin of the centaurs, as Zeus created them from a cloud resembling Hera, which Ixion attempted to embrace.
