Horus of Behdet, also known as Horus of Edfu, is an ancient Egyptian deity associated with the city of Behdet (modern-day Edfu). He is a form of the falcon-headed god Horus, who was worshipped as a protector and a symbol of kingship. The name "Behdet" translates to "the place of the god" in Egyptian, and it is believed that Horus of Behdet was particularly revered for his role in defending Egypt against its enemies, both terrestrial and celestial. In Hebrew, Horus is known as חורוס, and in Arabic, he is referred to as هرمس (Hermes), although this is a later association. Horus of Behdet is often depicted wearing the double crown of Egypt, signifying his dominion over both Upper and Lower Egypt. His temple at Edfu, known as the Temple of Horus, is one of the best-preserved ancient Egyptian temples and provides significant insights into the religious and political landscape of the Ptolemaic period.
