Degree

A degree is a measure of an angle, most commonly expressed in degrees of arc, denoted by the symbol °. It is one of the three basic units of angular measurement, along with radians and grads. A full circle is 360 degrees, with a right angle being 90 degrees, and a straight angle being 180 degrees. The term "degree" is derived from the Latin gradus, meaning "a step". In Hebrew, the word for degree is מעלה (ma'alah). In other languages, it is known as grad in Spanish and Portuguese, grad in French, Grad in German, and () in Chinese. Degrees are used in various fields such as geography (to denote latitude and longitude), mathematics, and navigation. They are also used in temperature measurement, where the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales are based on degrees, though these are distinct from degrees of arc.
