Che Guevara, born Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (14 June 1928 – 9 October 1967), was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, intellectual, guerrilla leader, diplomat, and military theorist. Guevara is an icon of various leftist movements and is a countercultural symbol known throughout the world. He was a major figure of the Cuban Revolution, serving in the government as minister of industries after Fidel Castro's assumption of power in 1959. Guevara also played a key role in exporting the Cuban Revolution abroad, including a failed attempt to foment a second Cuban Revolution in Congo-Léopoldville and the establishment of a guerrilla movement in Bolivia, which led to his capture and execution by the Bolivian government with assistance from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States. In Hebrew, Che Guevara is known as צ'ה גווארה (Che Guevara). In Spanish, his name is often simply referred to as Che, a Spanish interjection roughly equivalent to "hey, buddy" or "man". In French, he is known as Che Guevara, and in German, he is referred to as Che Guevara.
