Archangel Gabriel, also known as Gabriel, is an archangel in Abrahamic religions who typically serves as a messenger to humans from God. The name Gabriel is derived from the Hebrew name גַּבְרִיאֵל (Gavri'el), meaning "God is my strength" or "God has shown himself strong." In the Christian tradition, Gabriel is well known for announcing the births of John the Baptist and of Jesus to their mothers, Elizabeth and Mary, respectively. In Islam, Gabriel (or Jibril in Arabic) is considered the angel who revealed the Quran to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. In Judaism, Gabriel is one of the four angels who stand before the throne of God, and is often depicted as a messenger and interpreter of dreams and visions. Gabriel is also recognized in the Bahá'í Faith, where he is considered one of the most significant angels in religious history.
