Anuket (also spelled Anukis or Anqet) is an ancient Egyptian goddess associated with the Nile River, particularly its annual flooding, which was vital for agriculture. Her name is derived from the Egyptian word ankh, meaning "to embrace" or "to strangle," reflecting her role in controlling the river's life-giving and destructive aspects. In Hebrew, her name is transliterated as אנוקט. Anuket was often depicted as a woman wearing a tall headdress adorned with ostrich feathers, symbolizing her connection to the river and its life-sustaining waters. She was part of the Elephantine Triad, a group of deities worshipped in the region of Aswan, alongside Khnum and Satet. Anuket's significance extended beyond Egypt, with her cult also present in Nubia, where she was revered as a protector of the southern borders. In ancient Greek, her name was transliterated as Anoukis (Ancient Greek: Ἀνουκις).
