Andjety (also spelled Andjeti or Andjety) is an ancient Egyptian deity, primarily worshipped during the Early Dynastic Period and the Old Kingdom. The name Andjety is derived from the Egyptian phrase andjet, meaning "He of Andjet," referring to the city of Andjet (also known as Djedu or Busiris), located in the 10th nome of Lower Egypt. In Hebrew, the name can be transliterated as אנדג'טי, though there is no direct translation. In ancient Greek, the deity was known as Ἰνδέτης (Indetēs). Andjety is often depicted as a man with a crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, symbolizing his role as a unifying deity. He was associated with the pharaoh's divine authority and was sometimes considered a precursor to the more well-known deity Osiris. Andjety's cult center was at Busiris, where he was venerated as a local deity before gaining broader significance in the Egyptian pantheon. His worship declined with the rise of Osiris, who absorbed many of Andjety's attributes and mythological roles.
