Alaungpaya (Burmese: အလောင်းဘုရား; MLCTS: *a.laung.phra.*; IPA: [ʔəláʊɴ pʰəjá]; 24 September 1714 – 11 May 1760), also known as Uphulu (Burmese: ဥဖလု), was the founder of the Konbaung Dynasty of Burma (Myanmar). His birth name was Aung Zeya (Burmese: အောင်ဇေယျ), and he was also known as Hsinbyushin (Burmese: ဆင်ဖြူရှင်). Alaungpaya's reign marked the beginning of the third Burmese Empire, which would go on to conquer much of mainland Southeast Asia. The name "Alaungpaya" translates to "Father of the Royal Line" in English. In Thai, he is known as Phraya Alaungpaya (พระยาอลองพญา), and in Lao, he is referred to as Phraya Alounpaya (ພຣະຍາອະລູນປະຍາ). There is no direct translation for "Alaungpaya" in Hebrew, as the name is specific to Burmese history and culture.
