The Abraham Lincoln assassination conspiracy refers to the plot orchestrated by a group of individuals to assassinate U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, which ultimately succeeded on April 14, 1865. The primary conspirator, John Wilkes Booth, a well-known actor and a Confederate sympathizer, shot Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., while Lincoln was watching the play Our American Cousin. The conspiracy involved several other individuals who planned to assassinate Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William H. Seward simultaneously to create chaos and disrupt the Union government. The plot was part of a broader effort to aid the Confederate cause during the final stages of the American Civil War. The Hebrew translation for "assassination" is התנקשות, and in Spanish, it is asesinato. The conspirators were eventually captured and tried, with several, including Booth, being executed for their roles in the plot.
