Chapter 11

KJV: I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

Geneva: I Demaund then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid: for I also am an Israelite, of the seede of Abraham, of the tribe of Beniamin.

KJV: God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,

Geneva: God hath not cast away his people which he knew before. Know ye not what the Scripture sayth of Elias, howe hee communeth with God against Israel, saying,

KJV: Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

Geneva: Lord, they haue killed thy Prophets, and digged downe thine altars: and I am left alone, and they seeke my life?

KJV: But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

Geneva: But what saith the answere of God to him? I haue reserued vnto my selfe seuen thousand men, which haue not bowed the knee to Baal.

KJV: Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Geneva: Euen so then at this present time is there a remnant according to the election of grace.

KJV: And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Geneva: And if it be of grace, it is no more of workes: or els were grace no more grace: but if it be of workes, it is no more grace: or els were worke no more worke.

KJV: What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

Geneva: What then? Israel hath not obtained that he sought: but the election hath obteined it, and the rest haue bene hardened,

KJV: (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

Geneva: According as it is written, God hath giuen them the spirit of slumber: eyes that they should not see, and eares that they should not heare vnto this day.

KJV: And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

Geneva: And Dauid sayth, Let their table be made a snare, and a net, and a stumbling blocke, euen for a recompence vnto them.

KJV: Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

Geneva: Let their eyes be darkened that they see not, and bowe downe their backe alwayes.

KJV: I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

Geneva: I demaund then, Haue they stumbled, that they should fall? God forbid: but through their fall, saluation commeth vnto the Gentiles, to prouoke them to follow them.

KJV: Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

Geneva: Wherefore if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles, how much more shall their aboundance be?

KJV: For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

Geneva: For in that I speake to you Gentiles, in as much as I am the Apostle of ye Gentiles, I magnifie mine office,

KJV: If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

Geneva: To trie if by any meanes I might prouoke them of my flesh to follow them, and might saue some of them.

KJV: For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

Geneva: For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiuing be, but life from the dead?

KJV: For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

Geneva: For if the first fruites be holy, so is the whole lumpe: and if the roote be holy, so are the branches.

KJV: And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

Geneva: And though some of the branches be broken off, and thou being a wilde Oliue tree, wast graft in for them, and made partaker of the roote, and fatnesse of the Oliue tree.

KJV: Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

Geneva: Boast not thy selfe against the branches: and if thou boast thy selfe, thou bearest not the roote, but the roote thee.

KJV: Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.

Geneva: Thou wilt say then, The branches are broken off, that I might be graft in.

KJV: Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

Geneva: Well: through vnbeliefe they are broken off, and thou standest by faith: bee not hie minded, but feare.

KJV: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

Geneva: For if God spared not the naturall branches, take heede, least he also spare not thee.

KJV: Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Geneva: Beholde therefore the bountifulnesse, and seueritie of God: towarde them which haue fallen, seueritie: but toward thee, bountifulnesse, if thou continue in his bountifulnesse: or els thou shalt also be cut off.

KJV: And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.

Geneva: And they also, if they abide not still in vnbeliefe, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graffe them in againe.

KJV: For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

Geneva: For if thou wast cut out of the Oliue tree, which was wilde by nature, & wast graffed contrary to nature in a right Oliue tree, how much more shall they that are by nature, bee graffed in their owne Oliue tree?

KJV: For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Geneva: For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this secret (least ye should bee arrogant in your selues) that partly obstinacie is come to Israel, vntill the fulnesse of the Gentiles be come in.

KJV: And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

Geneva: And so all Israel shalbe saued, as it is written, The deliuerer shall come out of Sion, and shall turne away the vngodlinesse from Iacob.

KJV: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

Geneva: And this is my couenant to them, When I shall take away their sinnes.

KJV: As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.

Geneva: As concerning the Gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloued for the fathers sakes.

KJV: For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Geneva: For the giftes and calling of God are without repentance.

KJV: For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

Geneva: For euen as yee in times past haue not beleeued God, yet haue nowe obteined mercie through their vnbeliefe:

KJV: Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

Geneva: Euen so nowe haue they not beleeued by the mercie shewed vnto you, that they also may obtaine mercie.

KJV: For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

Geneva: For God hath shut vp all in vnbeliefe, that he might haue mercie on all.

KJV: O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Geneva: O the deepenesse of the riches, both of the wisdome, and knowledge of God! howe vnsearcheable are his iudgements, and his wayes past finding out!

KJV: For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

Geneva: For who hath knowen the minde of the Lord? or who was his counsellour?

KJV: Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

Geneva: Or who hath giuen vnto him first, and he shalbe recompensed?

KJV: For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Geneva: For of him, and through him, and for him are all things: to him be glory for euer. Amen.
