Chapter 3

This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

Dear friends, I am writing this second letter to you. In both letters, I remind you of your clean thoughts.

That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

So that you remember the messages from the holy prophets earlier and the commands we, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, have given.

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

Understand first that in the future, there will be people who mock others and follow their own desires.

And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Asking, "When will he arrive?" because since the first people passed away, everything stays the same as it was at the start of creation.

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

They don't understand that long ago, God's word created the sky and the land, which was once covered in water.

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

By which, the world back then, overwhelmed by water, disappeared.

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

But the sky and Earth, right now, are saved for a special day when they will be destroyed with fire, for the judgment of people who don't believe in God.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

But dear ones, don't be unaware of this fact: for the Lord, one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like just one day.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The Lord isn't slow about keeping His promises. He is patient with us and doesn't want anyone to be lost. Instead, He hopes everyone will change their ways.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

But when God's special day arrives, it will be sudden, like a thief at night; on that day, the sky and everything in it will disappear with a big noise, and everything will melt from intense heat, including the earth and all the things on it will be destroyed.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Since everything will eventually disappear, you should be people who live in a pure and religious way.

Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Seeking and eagerly waiting for the day when God arrives. On that day, the sky will catch fire, break apart, and the earth's building blocks will melt due to intense heat.

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

So, even though things are bad now, we hope for a new sky and Earth where only good people can live, just like he promised.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

So, dear ones, since you're waiting for these things, be eager to make sure you are found by him at peace, with no mistakes, and faultless.

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

Understand that God's patience is our salvation. Just like our dear brother Paul, who was wise and shared this with you based on the knowledge he received.

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

In all his letters, he talks about these topics. Some parts are difficult to understand. Uneducated and unstable people twist these words, just like other scripts, for their own demise.

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

So, dear friends, since you already knew about these things, be careful not to be tricked by the mistakes of bad people and lose your strong beliefs.

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Grow in grace and understanding of Jesus. He gets glory now and forever. Amen.
